Harlequins, host of the annual showpiece Big Game fixture, is excited to announce that the Club will host a first ever double header at this year’s festive Twickenham event.

The double header will see Harlequins Women featured at the event, in a first for women’s club rugby.

Big Game 12, the biggest event on the festive sporting calendar, sees a repeat of the inaugural Big Game in 2007, with Harlequins hosting fierce rivals Leicester Tigers on Saturday 28th December, kick off 16.30. This will be followed by Harlequins Women taking on leading Irish side Leinster Women in a friendly.

The event appeals to the whole family with entertainment across the whole day from spectacular firework displays to performances from stars from the music industry alongside activities for all ages as well as meet and greets with stars from the rugby world.

With Harlequins leading the way in women’s rugby, this will be the first time Harlequins Women will have played a domestic game at Twickenham and the very first women’s club game of its kind at the home of English rugby.

Harlequins Women’s player Rachael Burford, who lifted the World Cup with England in 2017, said: “This is such an exciting moment for the women’s game, playing on the biggest stage at such a fantastic spectacle of rugby. Harlequins, as a club, is doing brilliantly as it strives for parity and gives its women’s team the opportunity to play on the same stage as the men’s side and truly feel like one Club.”

Harlequins winger, Gabriel Ibitoye, added: “Playing at Twickenham is one of the greatest feelings any player can have, so it’s only right that the whole of the Club gets to share in this moment and I can’t wait to share the pitch with Harlequins Women who are delivering great results not only on the pitch but are a key component to growing the women’s game.”
